Volunteer

The areas we need help with are:

  • Marketing

This involves contacting media outlets and blogs to encourage them to cover us, creating a MySpace page for our non-profit, putting fliers at cafes and bulletin boards in your area, and a bunch of other possibilities.

  • Fundraising

Options in this area include emailing people you know to have them check out this site; inviting people to an event at your home so they can hear about the non-profit and possibly donate; helping us write and edit grant proposals to foundations; and providing a reference (or references) of someone who might be a donor we could contact ourselves.

  • Become a volunteer editor

We have volunteer positions for layout editor, special projects editor, content editor, photography editor, and copy editor. This is a great way to help and a great resume builder. For more information, click here.

  • Writing and editing

We often need people to write and/or edit web pages, letters, grant proposals and other items.

  • General support

We have assorted ways of helping out. For example, we have quotes and lyrics to be entered into "The Daily Extra" repository (which automatically loads one onto the front page at midnight each night ). We also want to make a master list of all the sources we use and how long links to their sites typically stay active.

  • Website testers

When our web developers update the site, we need people to test things to make sure the new features work and the existing functionality is not affected. You can also give us feedback on how user-friendly they are.

  • Strategy and advice

We sometimes need people who can strategize, brainstorm or advise on various matters including web site development, web design (particularly Dreamweaver MX 2004), non-profit legal matters, hiring, finance and tax filings.

  • Other opportunities

Other opportunities arise so even if the above areas don't match your interest, please let us know and we can contact you when they do. We will also be forming an Advisory Board in the future.

If you are interested, please contact Peter Dunn at . Please indicate what areas you are interested in — general interest is fine too — and if you have any particular skills, experience or knowledge you want us to be aware of.
